Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS)

I have been in Sarawak for two years.
If I am not studying in UNIMAS, I will most probably miss out this beautiful land.
UNIMAS is known as the University Malaysia Sarawak.
It is the eighth university in Malaysia and built on 1992.

UNIMAS first opened its doors for apply is on 8th August 1993 to the first batch of students.
In that time, there were only two faculties open for students to apply, which were
(a) Faculty of Science Social (FSS)
(b) Faculty of Resource Science and Technology (FRST).

There have four others faculties opened in the next year which include
(a) Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FACA)
(b) Faculty of Cognitive Science and Human Development (FCSHD)
(c) Faculty of Computer Science and Technology (FCSIT)
(d) Faculty of Engineering (FENG)

Until now, there are 11160 students studying in UNIMAS.
The number of students studying in this university is less compared to other universities.
This provides a better and unique environment for teaching, learning and research.

There are 8 faculties available included Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts (FACA), Faculty of Cognitive Science and Human Development (FCSHD), Faculty of Computer Science and Technology (FCSIT), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Faculty of Engineering (FENG), Faculty of Medicine and Health Science (FMHS), Faculty of Resource Science and Technology (FRST), and Faculty of Social Science (FSS).

UNIMAS is top 10 universities in Malaysia 2012.

There are west and east campus in UNIMAS.
East campus nowadays is specialized for pre-university students while others will focus at the west campus. There are two symbolize constructions that represent UNIMAS.
These two symbols are the water towers and the bridge.
There are two water towers in UNIMAS which are the tallest in Sarawak.
There have two functions of water tower, first is filter the water used in UNIMAS and second is storing the water inside.
The second symbol is the bridge across the UNIMAS Lake known as the “Love Bridge” by UNIMAS students and located at the center of the West Campus.
You will enable to see many students spending their evening time around the bridge for several activities like jogging, kayak and others. The evening scene there is just amazing.

UNIMAS provide a better environment for hostel.
There are 8 hostels in UNIMAS and we named it as Kolej Allamanda, Sakura, Cempaka, Bunga Raya, Tun Ahmad Zaidi, Kenanga, Seroja and Kolej Perubatan.
There have 5 hostels in west campus UNIMAS, which include Kolej Allamanda, Sakura, Cempaka, Bunga Raya and Tun Ahmad Zaidi. While east campus UNMAS have 2, there are Kolej Kenanga and Kolej Seroja.
Kolej Perubatan is outside UNIMAS main campus (West and East Campus) and Kolej Seroja is mainly for Pra-University students.
Each Kolej comprises of apartments and each apartment can occupy at least 8 students except Kolej Seroja.
In every apartment, there are pantry, bathrooms, toilets, balcony and dining room. The design of hostel enables students enjoying a pleasant home.

There are many facilities available in UNIMAS include the basketball courts, swimming pool, bowling centre, tennis courts, squash courts and stadium. Students can spend their sparing time in various activities. There is also kayaking activity available in the UNIMAS Lake.
