Miao City - Kuching


Let’s zoom in our focus on the administrative capital of Sarawak, Kuching
Almost every tourist starts their tour in Kuching. 
The name of the city, Kuching is believed to derive from the Malay word, Kuching which gives the meaning of cats. 
That is why Kuching is also known as the cat’s city.
It is not hard to find cat statues as it is everywhere in the city. 
In Chinese’s perspective, Kuching means harbor, deriving from the pronunciation “Gu Chin”.  
In Kuching, there is Sarawak River that separating the north and the south part of the city. 
It will be a wonderful experience to ride a sampan across the river.  
You will be amazed by the beauty of the green environment.

As Kuching is a multicultural place, people in Kuching master in Multilanguage. 
Most of the locals speak Malay and their ethnic tongue with English is their second or third languages. 
For those who come from Peninsular Malaysia, you will realize that their Malay dialect is different with Malay language in Peninsular Malaysia. 
This uniqueness is enough to be categorized as their own language, Bahasa Melayu Sarawak. 

Life in Kuching is not as hectic compared to other cities especially Kuala Lumpur. 
There is not much night life in Kuching. 
The shops are most probably closed at 5pm except for the shopping malls and restaurants. 
It is not common for the Kuching locals to spend their night time in mamak stall. 
Therefore, mamak stall is rare in Kuching city.
There are many places that worth to pay a visit in Kuching. 
Waterfront is now transformed into a landscaped esplanade. 
Along the waterfront, you will see Chinese old temples, square tower, observation tower and Waterfront Park.
